Hampton Court Palace

Sited on the Thames in the far west of London is Hampton Court Palace, residence of King Henry the VIII from 1529 until his death in 1547.  It is here that the great drama of The Tudors played out, wherein 5 of Henry's 6 wives, starting with his 2nd, Anne Boleyn, came and went.  She and Catherine Howard were beheaded, Jane Seymour died upon producing a coveted male heir, and Anne of Cleves was banished.  Catherine Parr, the 6th and final, became his widow.  The palace is vast, well-preserved and magnificent, with Tudor and Baroque wings.

  1. Beautiful scenery and history. Thank goodness we are more civilized now (or are we?).
