Author of On the Origin of Species and The Descent of Man, famed British naturalist Charles Darwin resided at Down House, with his wife Emma and their 10 children, from 1842 until his death in 1882. It was here he honed his theories of evolution and wrote his bestselling books. Built in the 1650's in Orpington, in the south of London, the home and its grounds have been meticulously restored to how they appeared when the Darwins were in residence.
