The Dinosaurs of Crystal Palace Park

This is not a disparaging reference to the many seniors who occupy the park benches on a pleasant day.  There actually are dinosaurs here, sculptures of dinosaurs to be exact, unveiled in 1854 to coincide with the opening of the magnificent Crystal Palace, relocated to South London from Hyde Park where it housed the Great Exhibition of 1851.

The Crystal Palace railway station, opened in 1854 to take
crowds to the relocated palace.

The palace, with its 60,000 panes of glass,
in its original Hyde Park location.

The palace in its new location.  It was destroyed by
a fire in 1936 whereupon Winston Churchill declared
"this is the end of an age."
