Valence House

Dating from the 13th century, Valence House is the only surviving medieval manor house in the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham.  It derives its name from tenant Agnes de Valence who moved here from the French province of Valence when her uncle Henry III became king.

Carbon dated to 2250 BC, the
Dagenham Idol is the earliest known
carving of the human form.

The sarcophagus was discovered in 1931
while gardening.
