Tottenham, a town in north London, is the location of Bruce Castle. Dating from the early 1500's, it is one of the oldest surviving brick houses in England. Its first owner is believed to be Sir William Compton, King Henry VIII's Groom of the Stool (a most intimate courtier responsible for attending to the king's needs in his Privy Chamber).
