Clement Sisley, a wealthy merchant, built Eastbury Manor (then known as Estburie Hall) in the 1560's, during the reign of Elizabeth I. It is one of the very few intact surviving gentry houses from the Elizabethan Era. Our guide indicated that much of the house was constructed from timber salvaged from scrapped merchant ships. It is located in East London, in the Borough of Barking & Dagenham, and has been open to the public since the 1930's.
