Serving as the filming location of the popular historical drama Downton Abbey, Highclere Castle in Hampshire was built in the 1670's but its current appearance, in an Italianate and Jacobethan style, dates from an 1840's renovation. Highclere is the home of the Earls of Carnarvon; the 5th Earl, along with Egyptologist Howard Carter, discovered King Tut's tomb in 1922.
