Founded in the 12th century and enlarged by King John in the 13th, Kenilworth Castle in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, became a tourist attraction upon the publication of the 1821 novel Kenilworth by Sir Walter Scott, loosely based on Queen Elizabeth's royal visit of 1575.
