Dulwich

Dulwich is a charming and leafy South London hamlet, a quick 3 stops from Victoria Station via National Rail.  It felt worlds away from the hubbub of the city.

The Barbican Estate

This section of Central London was completely devastated by The Blitz during World War II.  Redevelopment of the site finally commenced in 1965 and the 2000-unit Barbican Residential Estate came into being.  Many consider it a masterpiece of the Brutalist School of architecture.

St. Giles Cripplegate, medieval church dating from 1090, survived The Blitz,
preserved in the middle of the Barbican Estate.

Ruins of Roman walls which enclosed London around 200AD,
preserved within the estate.

A Visit to Golders Hill Park and a Walk Along Regent's Canal

Golders Hill Park is in Golders Green, north London, just above Hampstead Heath.  It's a lovely park with various interesting attractions including The Stumpery, a trail of sculptural tree stumps.

Regent's Canal runs just north of central London, from Paddington to Islington.  It is lined with many quirky houseboats.  Today we walked the section from Little Venice to Camden Town, passing thru Regent's Park.
