Tuesday, January 25, is Burns Night throughout the British Isles, celebrating the the life and work of Scotland's national poet, Robert Burns. This evening we went to a concert performed by the Band of the Scots Guard. The performance took place inside the Royal Military Chapel, close to Buckingham Palace, the site of a horrific incident during WW2.
On June 18, 1944, while the Chapel was packed with the prayerful for morning service, a German V1 flying bomb struck the building. 121 soldiers and civilians were killed and many more injured. The Chapel was rebuilt in 1963.
